Bruno was rescued last summer from San Bruno mountain. He had been living up there for three months. While on the mountain he was bitten by ticks and developed masses on his neck. These wart like masses are caused by ticks giving him the Papillomas virus. Several of the masses were removed at the time he was neutered. One of the large masses return a few months later and was removed.

We just found out that the plumbing at HRS Headquarters in California needs to be overhauled, and we need to raise $5800 quickly to fix it. Your donations to the new "Toilet Fund" will allow our staff and volunteers to be able to do their work and flush our troubles away! Thank you!

A description in a University of Victoria newsletter of how to kill, clean and cook the rabbits running wild on campus has animal rights groups hopping mad.
The article -- Cook up a pot of Rabbit Restoration Stew -- appeared in Essence, a newsletter put out by environmental studies students.
"Kill a nice fat UVic rabbit," wrote Abe Lloyd, a graduate student, who said he eats about one university bunny a month.

Many people mean well when they contact HRS after discovering an "abandoned" nest of wild rabbits. Often they wish to "rehabilitate" them with some advice from others. The reality is fewer than 10% of orphaned rabbits survive a week, and the care that people attempt to provide can be illegal, unnecessary, and potentially harmful. The best thing you can do is put the bunny right back where you found him, in the general area, as the Mom will only come back at night to call and find him. Leave the area. If injured, please contact a Wildlife Rehabilitator or rabbit vet immediately.

Peninsula Humane Society has a number of rabbits who were running loose in South San Francisco. 15 of them were brought to the shelter two weeks ago, another 7 came in last week, and Donna Jensen of Burrow Inn just caught five more and will be fostering some, as will Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary. They are euthanizing rabbits from the first batch and could really use some adoptive or foster homes. As Donna says, having these rabbits being rounded up to be euthanized doesn't seeem right. If you can help, please contact Donna at waltbda@aol.com.

Yes, it's for Microsoft Operating system. But how many software commercials mention the House Rabbit Society?? And it also stars Amy Sedaris and her bunnies! Very cute and funny and highly recommended.

But soft! What light through yonder habitat breaks? It is the east, and Juliet is the sun … or maybe a shooting star. Yes, my Juliet’s definitely more of a shooting star. She doesn’t stay still long enough to be the sun. Shooting stars really are kind of like bunnies, binkying through the sky.
But what I want to know is, why hasn’t anyone adopted us? It’s a year ago this month that we were bunnies of the month, back when we were goofy teenagers. And now we’re grown up—but still a little goofy—and still no one has stepped up to take us home. Why is that? We don’t make a mess of our pen like Brownie and Honda. We don’t hide in our box like Flopsy and Mopsy. Even when they brought those busloads of teenagers through the Rabbit Center and they
all wanted to pet us, we were nice. (Well, Juliet got a little impatient after a while, but she got over it.)
And I won’t say anything about myself, but Juliet is
superbeautiful. Really, those rakish ears—how can you resist? And black is such a stylish color—it goes with anything. So it’s time for someone to take the plunge and bring us home. All we ask is to take our raspberry treats with us.

Blueberry & Rodney went home last week with their longtime bunny buddies, Ken and Alda. Ken and Alda have been coming in almost every week since March to spend time with their buddies, bringing them toys and treats and just making them feel loved. In the end, they moved to a new apartment where they could have pets just so they could adopt Blueberry and Rodney. These are two lucky buns!

He looks surprised, doesn’t he? It isn’t often we know the exact birthday of a bunny, but we do happen to know that Bruno was born August 17, 2006. That’s when he and his six siblings were found in the back of a pickup truck. The owner of the truck thought they were newborn pit bulls (!) and took them to the local shelter, where Marisa recognized them as bunnies and rescued them. Maya, a nursing mother rabbit from San Jose Shelter, generously agreed to raise the orphans as her own.
Despite his early resemblance to a pit bull, Bruno is quiet and well-mannered. He likes cilantro, dried papaya, banana slices, and hay. He has excellent litterbox habits. And he has yet to attack anyone. He is hoping his stay at the Rabbit Center will help him find the perfect home, where he hopes to be spoiled and fussed over.
For his birthday, Bruno has asked for a Michael Vick chew toy.

Hi! We're Sunflower and Sabrina, mom & daughter, and looking for a safe haven to call our home! All of Sabrina's siblings have been adopted, but the two of us share a special bond and have stayed together. We watch out for each other and love to snuggle side-by-side. We are still a bit shy around people, but that doesn't mean we don't like to play!
Currently, their foster home can only keep them short-term and so we need to find a new foster home or permanent home ASAP. Please help!
If you are interested in these two wonderful and mellow rabbits please contact Jennifer, at (650)255-6764 or via e-mail at jennifer@ rabbit.org.

Brownie and Honda have retired from the Rabbit Center and are settling in at Harvest Home (that luxurious bunny retirement home out in Tracy). They left without waiting for us to organize a retirement party (I guess they didn't want that gold watch!) but we do want to wish them all the best, and hope they'll be very happy in the herd!

On Friday night, I was put in touch with a woman who had done some rabbit rescues for us in the past. Her mother had heard about Peaches plight and had her call me to find out what was going on. When I told her, she said that Peaches will have a home with her then and we made arrangements on how the exchange would happen. Since she would only be able to pick up Peaches on Monday, I decided to pack up Peaches that night and bring her to my house for the weekend. Peaches will be picked up and transported to her new home tomorrow evening. Congratulations Peaches!
